Where to repair Dogtra 1500 NCP?

Post by dawgmama » Tue Aug 24, 2010 7:40 pm

My Dogtra 1500 NCP is not holding a charge for long, nor does it seem to have much zip to it when it is charged. The collar is probably about 4 years old. Should I send it back to Dogtra for repairs, or to Collar Clinic? I really like this collar, never had a problem till now. We have the T&B as well, and also have had no problems with it. I of course cannot find the receipt, and I probably didn't register for the warranty either, paperwork is not my thing. So I was just wondering which would be the most economical option. Thanks, Nan

Nan,
I would call Dogtra first and explain to them whats going on. Probably just needs a new battery, but you never know then call Collar Clinic.

You can order new batteries from Collar Clinic and replace them yourself. Use a little silicone sealer when you put them back together.

Thanks for the replies. So the batteries would be cheaper at Collar Clinic? Sounds like an easy fix.
Thanks again, Nan

I don`t know about cheaper but it costs alot less to ship two batteries one way than your whole unit two ways. Be it Michigan or Cal.
I believe Collar Clinic sells them for $20.
Dogtra has a rubber seal to keep them waterproof. get two new seals also. You will be back in business in no time.

I am back in business! Thank you for your advice. I called Dogtra, they set me up with a battery for 17.99 and 2 bucks for shipping. I asked about sealing with silicon, she said to just make sure the gasket didn't have debris on it and to plug the new battery in and re-tighten the screws. I hadn't seen the post about asking for new seals as well. So far the collar has been in the pond and numerous creeks, and it is working great! I'm glad it was an easy and economical fix. With this economy, I wasn't looking forward to buying a new one. I really like this one with the vibrate feature, most of the time that is all the reminder they need to get their minds back on me! Good luck hunting. We are finding a few pockets of local woodcock here in Wisconsin, but the grouse numbers don't seem to be that great. We haven't found any coveys of young birds, and I don't think they have shuffled yet so...??
