Pigeon trap

Post by NVgsp » Tue May 23, 2006 11:02 am

Hey guys,
Any ideas or info regarding a home built pigeon trap. i have lost quite a few birds using the trap i purchased from LCS, and was wondering if anyone else had success trapping with a different design. the pigeons are able to squeeze through the swing doors on the trap and make their get away. any info would be great.

Thats odd usually they have a lock so they won't swing back & forth. Maybe you can put one of those sliding bolts so you would have to unlock it to let them out and after they are inside you can lock it back up.

i apologize, the doors only swing one direction: inward. my problem is that the pigeons are able to squeeze through the door once it is down and they are trapped. it doesnt occure too often (that i know of), but it does happen enough to get aggrevating.

Do you have a perch next to the trap in the coupe?

http://www.lcsupply.com/Product/Bird-Eq ... -Trap.html

here is a link so that you can see what i am refering to. the "bobs" are light weight, but can individually move...this is great when allowing the bird to enter but the pigeons seem to have figured this out when exiting. just seein if anyone else has had this problem.

I have the same problem!!! I had to bend them a little to tighten up the space so they could not get out. It works ok, but I still lose a bird every now and then. I would love to see how others have fixed this problem.

I have the very same trap and the very same problem. I have not found a solution to it yet. What I did find out is the birds are not squeezing through the bobs they are actualy putting their heads through than fliping a wing up in order to open a bob allowing enough room for an excape. This usualy occurs after the birds panic when they realize they are traped. I have only had problems wiht the younger birds excaping, those that havent fully matured.

My only solution has been to get a bird out as soon as it is traped before they panic. Although that isnt fesable while at work but do what you can.

Try weaving a piece of wire between the bobs so that they can't be opened individually. Adding more bobs doesn't seem to work too well.
