Any hunting preserve suggestions near Rochester, MN?

Post by Lukenbill » Fri Aug 12, 2011 10:03 pm

I'm posting this in the training section, because I'm looking to use this as a training tool when my pup is ready for live birds. I realize that pigeons are the preferred way to go, but due to time and location constraints, I don't see that happening.

I have found Pheasant View Hunt Farm online which is located up in Pine Island. I thought I remember seeing an online article last winter about one starting up a few towns south of rochester but haven't been able to find information on it now that I've started looking.

Any suggestions would be helpful, looking for something within an hour or so drive of Rochester if possible, but willing to go further for a good opportunity.

Also, if pigeons aren't an option, would starting her with chukar be a better choice then jumping straight to a pheasant?

Thanks!

chukar are by far better to start with over Phez.
The second kick from a mule is of very little educational value - from Wing and Shot.

Man if I recall correctly, you can just wait till August and start running her on wild Ruffie covyes and not worry about pen raised birds
