New to pointers, need advice

Post by yellowdog » Mon Aug 22, 2011 7:26 am

My group of hunting friends and I all have hunted over flushers for years. We all do pretty well with our dogs. We all use a trainer to get started but do most of the work ourselves. One friend recently acquired a Weimaraner (it came with his new girlfriend). He has done some yardwork with the Weim, as well as exposed him to gunfire with no issues. My questions are- can anybody recommend a good trainer of pointers in central Wisconsin (Appleton area), and do you have any advice for getting started with a pointer after years of working flushers? Do's, don'ts, etc.
