Park further from the timber so she can get settled down before you get there.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Like Ezzy says!
Some dogs just need to stretch their legs and get the piss and vinegar out before getting started with the job at hand.

How do you know there aren't birds were you park? If your going to hunt birds? Dog should point birds if you let him out to take a leak if there is one there. Right?

yes , but i haven't had that work out to many times
Re: 2 yr old
Training starts as soon as the dog is turned loose. If he knocks a bird fresh off the truck correct him. Next time he'll do it right. It not correct him again.grouse setter wrote:i have a ryman smith cross setter she has started great this season she is a 2 yr old went to the hunting reserve sunday pointed 4 quail i killed went to the woods today ran over the first grouse fresh ou tof the truck then pointed 2 woodcock i killed for her she is doing well just a little wild fresh out of the truck any suggestions
Re: 2 yr old
Wild grouse are an entirely different game than planted quail and woodcock.
I learned a valuable lesson in patience this year with a two year old of my own that showed me enough during his first season that raised my expectations a bit too much. Take it slow, make sure the dog is responding to training, and transfer it to the woods.

How do you correct a dog for bumping birds as previously suggested?
