info for first time trainer

Post by clytnbkr23 » Sat Jul 07, 2012 2:02 pm

I'm new to the site and new to the trainer world. I just got a registered black lab and i have ordered some dvds and books. I was wondering what brand and color bumpers to get as well as the size. Any help is greatly appreciated it. Thanks.

How old is the pup, and what are you planning on hunting? Example - you could get a quail style bumper, buy some quail scent and there you go! Ect ect.

get the smaller white ones and maybe a few orange ones for blind retrieve work. Gun Dog Supply is excellent to buy from!!!

The dog is just now 6 weeks it's still got a while before hard training I was just wanting to get a head start on info and get my gear now so I will have it. We will be hunting ducks on lakes. I'm not expecting to have a field trial champ just one to retrieve the ducks that fall. What is the first thing you would recommend doing with puppy? Thanks

I would recommend letting the pup be a pup for awhile, and just do a 15 min training session in the morning and maybe another one in the afternoon or night time. Just work simple things like sit / stay / come / heel ect.. Work in the retrieve a little later, but keep it simple and fun and short.
