New Brittany, New to Gun Dogs, and Commendation

Post by Equismith » Fri Oct 12, 2007 5:46 pm

I pick up my pup in the AM.

I just wanted to say thanks as I've been reading from this site for several days now, especially this training forum.

I must say that if you own a gun dog, this is the place to be.

There's a wealth of information here to be had that's for sure.

Thank you all. I'll be posting more. I'm positive of that.

Bud

Meet Miss Libby ~

I used to live in Alaska.

Libby Riddles was/is quite a dog handler/musher.

I figure Libby is a good name for this little one. She'll teach me much I'm sure.

Ha! You sure got the attention of all the Brit owners!

She's a nice lookin' pup. While she's still a pup, start reading and training and preparing yourself, and let her just be a pup. That way you'll be ready to train when she's ready to begin.

Thanks again all.

As far as her breeding goes, Mom and Dad are hunters. The breeder is a hunter who happened to have some puppies. Dad isn't registered so I got Libby for a good price. She was one of 11 pups in the litter. The breeder raises quail and hunts regularly. I think he told me he had 16000 quail nearly mature and another 1000 or so that had just hatched. Great folks and just 25 minutes from the house so I told him I'd be pestering him.

I'll have access to fields, quail, and someone whose brain I can pick at times, besides you guys

We went for a walk near our home yesterday, Libby and I. We flushed a quail in a stand of fescue and broomstraw. It flew about 40 yards and landed. I went in that direction again and it flushed again.
She hadn't a clue what happeded as she was fighting through the tall grass. It was funny. But she did keep up with me the entire time. I'd heard bobwhites in the field before but had never been able to kick one up.

Looks like I'll be walking her there many more times in the future.

Thanks folks.

Bud

I've been absent for a long while. Just an update on Libby. She'll be 8 this year. When lead went sky high and shells did too, I went back to my bows.

She grew up to be a good looking and useful dog then ?
I also have a Brittany named "Libby." I named her for a friend that died some years ago. She is now 2 years old and works well most of the time.

Will you be getting another Brittany ?

Not sure on another Britt. I have a male Britt also. No pups are in the future from them. Libby will be 8 soon and she still thinks she's two. She's 100% energy when out and running.
