Training in the winter

Post by Addict » Sun Feb 03, 2008 3:50 pm

What do you do in the winter for training? We have tons of snow on the ground and there isn't any cover anywhere to work the dogs on birds. We have had over two feet in the last three days and more is on the way. I'm ready for spring!

You can plant birds using shackled bird's so you don't leave footprints, or if you're going to advance the dog to lines or short blinds for duck hunting, use this time for teaching lines and handling. Great time of the year to utilize game farms if you can afford them.
LIFE WITHOUT BIRD DOGS AND FLY RODS REALLY ISN'T LIFE AT ALL.

I'm in the same boat here in Michigan. 2 feet of snow on the ground now, and another 6" to 10" tonight and tomorrow.

Come on Spring ! :)

We cheated--our boy headed to Texas in January for a 10 week training camp. As much as I miss him, I sure don't miss those 45 minute romps in the woods when it's -20. When the weather's that nasty, it's kind of lost time anyway...
