I thought about trying to do it myself scott is fixing one now and i have to send another one back also....It is a PIA but i have to admit Scott is handling it and taking care of it...i would not be hesitant of ordering another one after the bugs are worked out....which i think is only a QC issue with the person who put the antennas on....The would definitly be docked some pay if i was paying them.

I know you all are waiting for an update on this. I have not yet nailed down the issue yet because my electronics guy had a very large project he is finishing. I am meeting with him tomorrow and will have an answer on Wed. There are a few things that could be the cause. As far as replacing/fixing yourself we can work that out once I can tell you exactly what the problem is. I will contact you guys as soon as I have the information to pass on.

Having these issues out of the shoot is a royal pain in the butt I know. This is a 1st release and I am committed to fixing the ones that are not working and implementing procedures to avoid this in the future and continual improvement. If you have more questions or just want to call and vent/scream at me you are welcome to call me.

I had to basically take a number to get my electronics designer to take a few minutes for me. He is testing everything today so, I will know what is going on later today or early tomorrow. The good news is that he is one of the most skilled wireless designers. The bad news is that he has big clients that bump my schedule on occasion. Basically what I am saying is that he will tell me exactly what is going on with this and offer the solution.

What are the issues with this production run. I thought the only issue was the antenna not being soldered correctly. Is there more going on here with the launchers than we know?

I know for sure that it is a range problem. I am not sure for sure that the antenna is the cause. There are a few other thing electronically that can contribute to the range issue. That is why I am taking the step necessary so that the perform to spec.

Scott,

Just so you know, although I have not used my 2 launchers with birds yet because of the range issue, I have put them to use. I had a pig pickin' at my place this past weekend and people were intrigued by the strange box looking things sitting around. So, I did what any normal good ol boy would do. I loaded it up with a cold beer, launched it straight up, caught it, cracked it, chugged it. Who says these things are worthless!

Sidenote: They will throw a 12 oz can approximately 7-8 feet in the air.

Not so sure about that. You might want to ask him why he didn't set up the antenna for the way the board is laid out. The IC you have on the board is good for up to 3000 feet. The remote key fob is good for 1000 feet. The problem is entirely with the antenna design. There is a place on the board designed specificly for mounting an antenna that is not being used at all. There are is what's called a usable area on the board that the antenna can be mounted to for optimum performance and where the antenna is currently mounted is outside that area. If you look at what would be the top right hand corner of the board you will see what looks like 5 holes in the shape of an "X". (small) This spot was put there for a pcb antenna mount. What we (electronis engineer and myself) are doing now is soldering the antena mount in, running a short pice of coaxial cable from there to the cover, and installing a "rubber ducky" antenna on the cover (similar to a rubber walkie talkie antenna). We will be picking up the parts for the mod this weekend. I will have a few more dollars invested in the launcher but when we're done, I hope to get at least 200 yards of range out of it, maybe more. I'll post pics of the modification and results when we are done. If this works like we think it will, maybe you can incorporate the design into future launchers. My friend and I won't even ask for a design fee.

I know that option is there on the board. There is also a 0 ohm resistor that is installed so that the piano wire antenna can be used as a substitute. For obvious reasons I went for the wire antenna because the range on my prototypes was acceptable with that wire antenna. I to have a prototype board with that connector installed so, I know what you are referring to. Let me know how that works for you. I am still waiting on my board designer. Problem is he is on his 3 all nighter. One of those customers that say jump and you say how high and how many times.

My board designer is very good. That is not the problem it is the quality that I received from my supplier. That is why it is so frustrating. The good news in this is that when I get this straight it will be a good product. My designer has much experience with with wireless stuff. He designed the control systems for the small unmanned aircraft that the military uses and many other things. One of the e-collar companies was going to have them redesign their stuff a few years back but, didn't move ahead on it (they should have)

I really apreciate you guys. I will have everything nailed down and posted passed on by the first of next week.

I'm going to strongly suggest that those of you that are unhappy with Scott talk to him and stop posting here on the board. There is no need for all of the negative comments being put up for everybody to read and Scott isn't even on to see it.

Hey Scott ,
Rick and I used the two you sent him the other day, and you know what, damned if they both did'nt work and threw the freaking bird in the air 15 feet, heck man that was even after the third go around and the antenna came off one the "bleep" thing still worked at about 25 yds away.
Nicely built, light weight, worked well for us, I personally need a beeper man, heck I always forget where I put them ( yea sorry about that Rick ).
worked good man, keep pluggin away.
3 sentences and I said man like 5 times. what the heck??

Hey everybody ,

I am not sure this deal is as good as it sounds. Just because it is being offered at approximately half price because it hasn't been tested yet you need to know the launchers may not work right when you recieve them. If this is a problem you should order some other place and not from Scott.

Anybody wanting to contact Scott is encouraged to do so by PM and work out your problems. I fully understand the problems you all have and I sure understand the problems Scott is experiencing and I do know anymore public posts will not help a thing and is not fair to anyone on this board.

I have been working with Scott D on these launchers from the beginning. Thanks for everyone's positive comments and imput (and patience). We have ran into a few 'snags' on this first shipment but we are working through them as quickly as possible. Ultimately we know it's our fault but the manufacturer has missed on a few of the specs that we called out.

Scott will be back in town on Monday and can, and will, address many of your questions. I know he's working hard to get the issues resolved and I know he will make it right with those of you who have had issues. And I'm confident that this will be the best launcher out there once the bugs are worked out. Thanks guys and happy training/hunting!

Well, I returned from my vacation. It appears you can't plan those things far enough a head of time and the never seem to come at a good time. I did leave instructions with my partner to follow up with my board guy and visa-versa. Anyway the biggest holdup was getting some time with my board designer due to his busy schedule. I am doing some part design for him right now too so we communicate fequently.

Anyway he finally was able to do some testing and we are very confident that we have determined the cause. We made some fixes and it appears to have solved the problem. My board guy is going to put it on his test equipment and verify a few more things then we will be good to go. I will let you know as soon as I nail that down. That should be completed today. I know the bad unit was tested with the fix yesterday with great results so we are very close to taking care of this matter and having everything firing smoothly.

If you have more questions you are always welcome to call me.

I got the software yesterday and have loaded it on some of the bad units. Initial test look very good. I will be going through the rest of them today and over the weekend. I want to make sure it is meeting the spec. this time then I will be turning them loose next week. If you have questions post, email, or call me. But, things look very good now.

Yes, I still want to do a little more testing but, the range issue looks to be solved with the fix. I have been reprogramming and testing bad ones today with good results. If you are comfortable removing the cover an pulling out the circuit board you can send that back to me I will reprogram it and return it. I did not address this yet because I wanted to make sure the software fix was going to take care of the issue. Once I have it all straight I plan to update the software on everyone's launcher.

You are correct it has been a long process. I am starting to get caught up on this. By the end of the month I will likely be complete caught up with no wait time on new orders. I am shipping the ones that came back to me this week. I have fixed most of them and tested them.

Is everyone who got one of these launchers happy with what they got. I decided to let everyone else take advantage of the price break and get the bugs worked out of the product before I ordered mine. The price break was a really good deal but I decided to wait to see the final product and not worry about a new production model. It is the chance you take when you jump on an initial offering of a new product.

It looked like a really nice launcher and one that is priced right. I only have one dog and have plans on getting another. These would be great for me to train a new puppy. I think the more expensive ones are more for professionals that train many dogs per week. It would be just over kill for me to spend that kind of money for the limited time I need launchers.

Man I did not even see this thing until today. I wish I would have knew you were going to build something like this. I am a injection mold builder and I may have been able to save you some bucks on building a mold here. Why not make this launcher black so you can use regrind and cut your material cost on plastic?

Would not know I have not received mine yet. I did however receive one of his personal launchers to tide me over until he gets mine shipped out to me. So I can say his customer service skills were very good where I am involved. Would however like to know if mine is close to being shipped out yet or if he just wants me to keep his personal launcher?

Received my working replacement unit on the 14th of Sept. There was an antenna change. Since range was an issue on my first one I'm guessing that change was to take care of that problem. Works great now.

For all the talk about getting bad ones, sending those back, and getting fixed ones, I still haven't gotten one yet. I never got one in the first round of shipments when they had the range problems. Just been waiting patiently for a long time now. Scott has been very nice, and there's something to be said for that, but I would sure would like to have the launcher that I paid for soon.

I hear ya. I'm an impatient guy when I order stuff. Like I was at Christmas as a kid. Just keep the communication with Scott going. Truthfully you are in a little better shape because you havn't had to pay shipping to send one back to him. I'm sure he will work something out to get you a launcher soon. Keep on emailing him or call him.

I have a question to those who have working copies. How is the "lag" time between pressing the button and the launch of the bird?

I ordered 3 launchers at the end of May. I have not receive one yet. I spoke to Scott on the phone and he said he is 3-4 wks out on parts he needs to fill the rest of the orders, so expect to see them in the middle-end of October.

***BIRD LAUNCHER CUSTOMER UPDATE***

I don't really post much, preferring to listen more than I speak. But with the long product wait time and 14 pages of postings I thought some of you may be interested in what my experience has found.

I just received two of the three launchers that I ordered from Scott back in May. On unpacking them I found the units to be very solidly built, but light weight enough lugging them around a training field won't get old. I pulled up the instructions on the Treads and Tracks website and quickly and easily designated these two launchers as the left and right button launchers (this will save me the trouble of having to do so when the third unit comes in). My only previous launcher experience is with DT launchers. While DT's end-loading door is nice, I noticed that even people who are very familiar with them tend to forget the safety which is a pin on one side. The safety and arming is all up top on Scott's unit and easy to work. Taking the units into the yard I was able to reliably and consistently launch at a distance of 350'. I don't plan on needing any more range than that so I was satisfied. The individual and all-launch feature worked well. The launch was quick (no discernable trigger lag), strong (throwing Dokken quail dead fowl trainers to at least shoulder height), and quiet, (no startling flap or spring noise even at 10'-15'). I tested the locate function and you would probably have to be deaf to not hear the audible alert which is about like a car alarm. Once you get within a short distance the flashing power/battery lights easily grab your attention in all but high grass. If I have any complaint I guess it would be that the casing is not as olive drab or green as I thought, but it should blend easily in fall foliage.

I haven't spoken to Scott to confirm this but I imagine that he is trying to get some launchers to as many people as he can rather than complete orders to only a few. For the price and function I can accept the delays to date and a wait for my final launcher. Hope this answers some people's concerns and questions.

Scott, what's the current status on the orders that have not been filled yet?
