Tritronics Classic 70
Tritronics Classic 70
Anyone use this model? It's different than the G2 from the research I've done. I got a model for free, no manual but it had the collar, remote and both chargers in a case. The guy told me he bought it for his lab a few years back used it maybe 10 times and gave up on the dog for whatever reason. It has 5 settings, one button. You can nick or hold continuous up to 9 seconds depending what you need. Not sure on the range, I think he told me a half mile but haven't verified that.
My question, this was free so obviously no feelings hurt if you tell me it's a piece. Free is free though, will it get the job done or do you really need the nick/continuous buttons and 10 levels to get it done?

I used the classic 70 for many years. SInce its a tritronics its a good solid unit. the published range is 1 mile, but that is on perfecttly flat ground with no obstructions, depending where you are at 1/3 to 1/2 mile is what is a safe distance to consider.
The best thing with any ecollar is find someone that can help you understand it and how condition your dog to it. Awesome tool if used correctly, but an evil deviced if not.

It's a quality unit. IMHO, although I have a remote with this many levels, 10 levels is over rated. The Classic 70 will get the job done.BellaDad wrote:Free is free though, will it get the job done or do you really need the nick/continuous buttons and 10 levels to get it done?

Re: Tritronics Classic 70
I loved my classic 70 was glad I kept it when i strayed and tried other collars over a few years cause everytime they failed I grabs it and when i was guiding the other fell far short and the Classic 70 was my go to collar
I now have the pro 100 since i train i like the lower levels of stimulation it offers

You got the deal of a lifetime. The classic 70 is the unit that started the whole ecollar craze. The early ones had one level only. Like K-9 said, all of those levels are over rated. Five is plenty.

Re: Tritronics Classic 70
Good to hear, I found the manual online actually so that's a good thing. I zapped myself on 1-3 just to see what it felt like. I always told myself I'd never zap a dog without first trying it on myself so that I could respect what I was doing. 1 wasn't bad, 2 wasn't really bad either, 3 was enough to make me not want to go to 4.
I just bought the perfect start/finish set and should be getting them soon, do they go over collar conditining? I'm also joining the local NAVHDA chapter in the spring so I can always get some help from that avenue as well. My pup is only 4 months, I'm going to start putting the collar on her when we go out to the field just to get her used to wearing it, but no zaps for a while and as you said until I know that it won't be detrimental.

They do go over it briefly in their videos.
What you might want to start doing right now is when your taking them into the field, letting them wear it just so they get used to it and start associating the field with the collar

Tri tronics classic 70 is my go to collar. I used one for years, it is not hard for a beginner to use.
Re: Tritronics Classic 70
I use a friends Classic 70 and I love it. I bought a G3 system that i use when not hunting and it makes me wish i spent the extra on the G2. Its the basic tritronics collar that has a 1 mile range. You never need the upper levels really, but it will get the job done for sure. the only time i use the thing past 3 or 4 is when the dog tears off after a deer or rabbit and it stops her dead in her tracks. as far as the perfection kennels training DVDs... they go over how to use it in training, but conditioning the dog to the collar is pretty simple. everytime you go to run the dog or play outside, put the collar on but dont use it. this way the dog associates the collar with FUN. everytime my dog gets a glimpse of her ecollar she goes crazy because she knows shes about to go hunting/running. to get the dog used to the collar takes field work and a checkcord. they way i did it was to put the dog on the checkcord, let her do her thing and then wait for the dog to get sidetracked and then give a little shock with the collar while simultaniously tugging on the cord and saying come. im pretty sure i learned that from the perfection kennels DVDs, its been awhile since ive watched them. i trained my dog using those methods and shes great.
