Excessive Barking
Excessive Barking
What do you think are some of the down sides of a dog who barks excessively, Some people are are of the view that a dog that barks at at a lot of things is a good watchdog, do you think this is true? what to you think about that?

Re: Excessive Barking
In general I hate barkers. If he is barking at the appropriate times that's one thing but if he's just barking because he's bored you need to exercise him more. If it's neither of those two things than in my opinion the only thing a barker is good for is frustrating your neighbors. There are too many great dogs and my time here is too limited to sit and tolerate a yapper for the next 10 -12 years.

Re: Excessive Barking
well if you want your bird dog to be a watch dog then barking is ok but i want mine to be quite and clean so barking is not good for me

you mean there is an upside to excessive barking. lol I for one dont mind a dog that barks for a reason but one that barks just to bark usually gets a bark collar for the day.
Re: Excessive Barking
At what age are pups/dogs ready to be put on a bark collar? I've got a young one that barks, but I've been hesitant to put one on her.
