e-collar for training

Post by hoosier » Fri Dec 25, 2009 6:31 pm

I am looking at buying a e-collar for training only. I have a Dogtra 2002 t&b for hunting, but don't like it for training. Looking at the TT G3 100 and the Sportdog 1825. Any recommendations?

e collar are for maintaining training unless of course you are doing aversion training.

the pro 100 is a great collar ..I have been through sportdog dt and dogtras and always end up back with my Tri tronics when the other failed me

I have a Flyway Special, which is essentially a Pro 200 without the buzzer feature. I have used it for years and am very pleased with it. I seem to use more momentary stim than continuous. The Pro 100 is more useful for the trainer who uses more continuous than momentary, I think. I personally have never had much use for a buzzer feature, but that is just me.

I have heard mostly good things about the Sportdog trainers. The only negative(and it is a biggie) that I have heard, is that there was a definite time lapse between your pushing the button and the stimulation being deliverd to the dog. I heard this when the units were first introduced, several years ago. I pesonally have never used, or seen used a Sportdog unit, so my information is strictly second hand and hearsay.

It is also entirely possible that newer generations of Sportdog units have corrected this deficiency.

Seems that most of the collars are pretty good anymore. I would suggest you find one that you like and if you just have one dog I would try to get something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I have used TT and DT and they have been very good with no real problems. I love the vibrator on the DT and use that almost exclusively. TT are good but are high priced.

Good luck which ever way you decide to go.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Here's a review of the SD 1825: http://www.gundogsupply.com/sportdog-sd ... snell.html

I've been using it for 5 months with no problems. Charges quickly and survived the 3 minute puppy chew test. It has a multitude of programs and is adaptable to 2 dogs with an advertised range of 1 mile. I have it set up for tone, vibrate and nick. I rarely have to nick and like that I can vibrate quietly in a hunting situation. If you've whistle trained your dog he will quickly pick up those commands with tone. When I tone my dog now he doesn't even think about it, I get a quick and automatic response.
