AUSTAILIAN SHEPERD FOR GUN DOG

I HAVE GOT AN AUSTRAILIAN SHEPARD AND I WANT TO TRAIN HIM FOR BIRD HUNTING --MOSTLY FLUSHING --I KNOW THIS IS A DIFFERENT BREED TO TRAIN FOR HUNTING BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR ANY TIPS THAT MIGHT HELP MAKE HIM A GOOD GUN DOG --YOU HELP WOULD BE GREAT THANK YOU

Take him out where you feel there are wild gamebirds, and if any flush and he looks, praise him. If he accidently flushes any, paise him. If he indicates he can smell any, praise him.
Get him to understand that finding birds is what you want of him.

If you have a 10x10 kennel it can be easy to get him to like birds. Buy some live quail or chukar and put 3-5 birds in the kennel with him. He'll get birdy in a hurry. Then take him out where there are birds (you may have to put those birds in the field first) and praise the heck out of him when he finds one.

A word of warning, a lot of herding dogs can become easily gunshy. They were originally bred for herding and guardianship of livestock. Loud noises like gunshots may make them jumpy. Take gun introduction very carefully.
