i have been working on training one of my german shorthairs to be fully steady, to wing and shot. Today i took the camera out with me during our training session and i think he is starting to get there. it is so cool to come over a hill and see a dog on point and then have him stay on point after the flush. i just need to add the gun and shoot a few birds and make sure he is going to hold like he did today and i think we will have it. ya got to love them pointing dogs. http://www.sprigkennels.com/grizz

In my opinion the best reason for teaching steady to wing and shot is it keep's the dog out of harms way till the shooting is done.

I am also working on being steady through the shot. Looks like he is picking it up.

I started insisting on it with dogs about 5 years ago. I was guiding people and I cannot tell you when or how it happened but I found two of our dogs had pellets in them during x-Rays. It spooked me into making my dogs honest.

normally i would have for this dog but i had the camera in one hand and the remote launcher in the other so i had no room for a gun. 8)

Try using multiple launchers with a scent bird. The dog points the scent bird you you launch a bird then vary the time between launching the other birds this keeps the dog waiting and expecting another bird. The launched bird is enough of a reward for the dog. This is also another reason to keep your dog steady to wing and shot it will not bust another bird if you have thoroughly swept the area .
