More intense training?

Post by JasonM » Thu Feb 16, 2006 11:30 am

I've been keeping with my typical routine of 2-3 times/week about an 1hr to 1.5 of running. I dont run I hike, Rocco runs(9mos GSP). At what age and what to I do to increase the intensity of the training? Physically I can hike farther than a few miles in the uplands (mtns) but is this enough for conditioning for hunting season? I hope he can hunt for at least half day without pooping out? Thanks for the help.

No one can really tell you when you should increase your training because it depends on your dog.

Usually Bailey can go half day when I dont run her then take her hunting. Latley I have been running here for a full day once a week and she can now go all day. Try getting a quad or throw some chains on your dog to build up resistance so it makes the dog feel like he has run further. With the resistance he will build up more muscle mass. The quad is just for your fun and to do a little faster with the dog.

What you are doing should be fine for normal hunting activities.
