Too much snow? Head to the beach !!
Too much snow? Head to the beach !!
So there's still 1+ feet of snowpack on the ground in all my training covers within 30-45 minutes of my house........
No problem, we'll head to the beach only 5 minutes away! Here's a picture I took of Katy today- she stopped to flush on some shore birds that lit out
of there pretty quick when they saw Katy comin'......... I have a 1.5 mile stretch of beach at low tide to get her back into condition.
Down & back is a solid 3 mile run.

She's got a lot of catchin' up to do......... remember- she was down & out the entire month of January.
Katy won't be running in adult stakes until the end of April....... not 'til she's good & broke.
I've seen too many people run dogs who weren't broke in adult stakes & it eventually just winds up going south-
the other handler (when your dog steals point or takes out birds that their dog is pointing), the handler of the "not broke"
dog ('cuz they're picking up), the dogs (once they get picked up)..... just a mess.
Not my cup of tea. She'll run when she's right, and not a week before.......... and then I'll still screw her up!

Re: Too much snow? Head to the beach !!
How do you keep from fishing in the surf? Surely there is something out there that will eat a silver spoon?
I was fishing on the Texas coast last summer with my two brittanys when I let out the pup for a run on the beach and watched her disappear into the horizon chasing birds the whole way. That was fine until I thought of a coyote coming out of the sand doons for an easy Brittany lunch. They didn’t and she came back. My older Brittany will watch my topwater all day, then likes to help land the fish, she still hasn’t figured out how they disappear when I let them go.
Awesome picture, thanks for sharing.

I remember Rob, I was just ridin ya a little bit. I agree with you. She'll have plenty of time to screw up and then it'll be your turn. I'm still tryin to get my turn out of the way.

We've got some trainin' to do first!Ricky Ticky Shorthairs wrote:Rob~Glad she's back in the saddle. She's got some winnin' to do!

Just returned from some steadiness training of the golf course I run her at (yes, where she was injured
back in January). She worked a covey of ducks steady to wing and shot. Then she worked the quail I planted for her
steady to wing & almost to shot (took a step on the shot- but stopped to my vocal warning).
This was with no checkcord- just her bell and her e-collar (which I didn't have to resort to). I was by myself, so I had
to flush the quail, keep an eye on her & fire the blank pistol. She did okay- no chasing........ we'll be back at it tomorrow.
