Pro Trainer in Texas?

Post by CowboyBirdDogs » Fri Mar 04, 2011 8:58 am

Does anyone know of some notable GSP trainers in Texas? I'm looking to send Tucker off for a month or 2 to get worked with, I know of a couple guys but the people on this forum seem to have a quite a bit of info on stuff like this. I live near Dallas so Oklahoma is an option too! Thanks for the help!

There are a lot of Texas dogs sent up here. However, three months is about the minimum anyone will take your dog for. Might check and see if Tom Smith has any slots open in Edmond. That would be a straight shot for you.

Not sure, but I think Ronnie Sales (Free Flight Kennels) might be close to you?

Charlie isn't big time, but he knows how to train and take care of dogs. I've known him for a long time. His dogs are his life.

Ronnie is out in Jonesboro, and is a good guy to work with. His website is http://www.rsaledogs.com/

The place I'd recommend the highest in TX is Tina Carles & Tonia Doering at T&T kennels. Problem is they are out in San Angelo, which is probably further than you want to travel. Don't have a website but I can get you a phone number.

Another option is Dan Hendrickson out in Abilene ( http://www.phantomkennels.com ). I don't know him personally but know someone in the DFW area who has used him for many years and speaks very highly of him.

FYI,
Dave

I'm very familiar with Ronnie Sales, a buddy of mine has a dog put of his kennel. I will check into Charlie Rose and then go from there! I looked into Scott Bodenstab but he recently regained his amatuer status and doesn't train dogs anymore.

I also recommend Charlie Rose. I spent several months down at his lease a couple years ago when I was between jobs. He loves his dogs, and more importantly, his dogs love him. Your dog will be in good hands! PM me if you want his cell number and I'll give it to you.

Adrian Jackson is mainly an EP man but I know he trains several different types of dogs for other people. I know of a couple of really good amateur trainers here in Guymon, OK who have GSP's and they are excellent with that breed. Tim Hidalgo is also from this area outside of Hardesty, OK and I know he trains several different breeds of dogs for clients. If you are interested in contacting any of these people PM me and I will give you their contact info.

Give my boy a call www.ggsportsman.com. He's busy with hunts now but can get you going in April.

Ronnie would be my first choice and Tina second, both are very good trainers. Ronnie can train a dog for what ever you want from hunting to trials, Tina learned from Bob Detering when she lived in Arizona.

Charlie Rose would not be on my, he is not in the same ballpark of the two listed above.

Talked to Tina on Friday. Tonya had shoulder surgery, so Tina is pulling double duty. I've got a GSP going in April. After having the girls train 3 English Setters for me, I'd have to recommend them w/o hesitation.

Best of luck,
Brad

How about that number, I can't get a website using T & T in San Angelo.

I know I have suggested them to your before, but Anderson Ranch Gun Dogs in Decatur is where my Tucker got trained for 2 months. I think they did a great job and I will eventually send him back to finish him up.

I'm meeting Rob Martin this Saturday to watch him handle his dogs in the Lonestar NSTRA trial. He is highly regarded in the NSTRA game. I just wonder how much he works on training dogs towards wild birds. I'd much rather hunt multiple species in SD or KS than go to any NSTRA trial. But he really seems to know his stuff. After that I'm going to look into Ronnie Sales, Charlie Rose and Andersons Gundogs.
