Hi

Rosie is 7 months old (I hope I am not too late) and in two weeks time she starts hunt training.

I have never, ever done anything like this and I am really looking forward to it :-).

What should I expect out of my first class?.

Also, I see whoa mentioned alot on this site. What does it mean?.

Thanks

James

Its never too late. As long as you have been working on basic obedience and haven't allowed any bad habits to start, you should do fine.

What exactly do you mean by hun test training class?

Whoa is exactly the meaning of the word, the dog stops when you give it the command. It can be used anywhere in the field, but is generally associtated with a dog on point...to prevent it creeping up on the bird. Ideally, your dog should stop, and point (if its a pointing breed) as soon as it hits the scent cone.

ur not too late. Delmar Smith didnt start his dogs till they were a year so you are still good. I didnt start training my setter until she was 2 or 3.

As for what to expect Expect to see alot of different breeds the rest is up to the dog.

Whoa is exactly how it sounds. You say whoa and the dog slmas on its brakes and doesnt move until your release it.

It's never to late. the earlier the better is best. but you can start now. Delmar smith would be the last method I would use to hard on a dog. And way to old school.

Depending on the dog. I am using delamrs method with my setter and it is too hard for her because of her softer persaonality but for the hard headed dog like my GSP I think it will work great.
