I am in the central Ohio area. I am getting an Irish Water Spaniel very soon. I would like to get into some AKC performance events. Does anyone on here have any recommendations for training around Ohio. It would be greatly appreciated. I had a springer in the past who I hunted with, but I am defintely looking for something formal this time around.
Thanks

Irish Water Spaniels are not in great supply I don't think. But if it were me I'd try to find some other owners that are hunting them and if I couldn't do that, there should be a field Springer Spaniel club around some where.
I had a friend years ago that had one we hunted with. It was a nice dog but the owner had never hunted it before, no one to go with. It was a nice little dog that I'd guess just needed some training. Definately not a runoff. Good luck! I'd like to hear how this turns out for you.

I know of lots of pointing dog resources, but not flushing dogs. I can help you with bird sources and training areas, but thats about it.
Sorry.

Look through the list here and find the spaniel trials and tests, then contact the chairman or secretary. They'll most likely be able to point you to a trainer. Try the contacts for past events as well as future ones.

There are a number of clubs across nothern Ohio that hold club sponsored field events. Crooked creek conservation club, south cuyahoga sportsman club, Wooster coon hunters club are a few that come to mind that hold both flushing and retrieving competitions. Google the names and you'll find a pretty good calender of events. Good luck!
I have a buddy who has had a number of Irish Water Spanials and they were great dogs to hunt with and a lot of fun, if you can take a ribbing when your asked where's the ribbons and bows on that cute dog!LOL
