Tek 1.0 or Garmin 320

Post by terrym » Mon Oct 31, 2011 9:46 am

I will buying a GPS tracking unit hopefully in the new year and was wondering what people think of these units? The Tek also has a e-colla function not sure if the GArmin does?

Have had a Garmin for a couple of years and just got a SportDog Tek 1.0 combo and took it out for the first time yesterday. Garmin does not offer an e-collar combo at this time, which was one of the reasons for adding the Tek 1.0. The controls are a little more complicated on the Tek 1.0, but I actually liked carrying the unit much more than I do the Garmin. It's not as fussy and is easier to read, in my opinion. The Tek 1.0 combo unit is a little bulky, as you can see. Haven't looked at any of the support services, so I don't know how that will compare.

I have the garmin 320 and a DC30 and DC40 collar. I highly recommend the Garmin.

I would say this, I'm not sure if your going to field trial or not, but the Tek is not sanctioned to use, only garmin and trackers. But if your not going to trial, the tek seems to be a good way to go. However, I read a post a while back about running e collars separate from gps collars. Makes more sense to have to separate collars in case your tek were to crap out.

The Tek is OK for AKC as long as the e collar part is taken off

But with that said I can't wait to see what Garmin is working on I mean why else would they buy Tri Tronics

I'd go Garmin. The new 320 is absolutely awesome compared to the old 220. No comparison. I DO NOT want my ecollar and tracker in the same unit. If one goes down, I'm out both a tracker and trainer. No thanks.

You have to see the graphics on the new 320 to believe it. Easier to use than the 220.

I have the 320 and really like it. I still use a TT collar with bell and beeper, and there's just not enough room on one collar for all the stuff anyway. The GPS is insurance, and to satisfy my insatiable curiosity regarding how far my dogs run compared to how far I walk.
