Expand your search for a pro... Nothing notable is in that area. Add another 45 to hour and you have some good pros.

Warren Eizman, Carl Porter, Larry Lowell, expand another few hours and add Leroy Merrell.

Those are all pointing breed trainers.

If you have a lab or other retriever I would go to prado but wouldn't with a pointing dog.

I am with Chukar12
Paul Dorion hands down is the best in the southern cal area
Carl Babbs is good also
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
"When I hear somebody talk about a horse or cow being stupid, I figure its a sure sign that the animal has outfoxed them." Tom Dorrance

See post above yours. Although, I didn't see that until K9 posted. When I posted on this thread, it showed me as first post. :?

Paul was an American field Handler in the 1970's running pointers, he had a short stint in the GSP world while operating a hunt club...took a hiatus to establish his kennel business and raise some kids and then settled in as a Brittany handler. His training includes all types of pointing breed hunting dogs. His trial dogs are brittany's because he travels the western circuit to most the Brittany trials and cannot commit to other breed trials.

Figured I resurrect this old tread instead of creating a new one. Seems like the below list of trainers are all mentioned several times on this forum over the years.

Note- I have a GSP and not a French Brittany like the original poster.

How am I supposed to know who to go to?
Do I just base it on proximity, so I’ll be able to go and learn more, and be more involved in the process?

This will strictly be a hunting and family dog. I have no intentions on any type of trialing.

Warren Eizman, Carl Porter, Larry Lowell, Leroy Merrell,, and Paul Dorion.

Also anyone know about Spoting dogs B&B in Gorman?

Work765,
Depending on where your coming from in so. Cal it’s probably a drive for you but I’d recommend Western Wing Kennels in Nevada. I just took my GSP there and am happy with results. Good luck in your search.

Bob and Beth at sporting dogs B & B are very good. They give the dogs a lot of personal attention. Their facility is immaculant, clean. Sometimes Dorian has so many dogs, i wonder how he gives any dog some personal attention. I don't know Dorians personally. If you are interested in being involved in your dogs training, contact, The Towers Group, on face book. They meet weekly to help people train their own pointing dogs. Raul, the main trainer may take in dogs to train himself. Tower Group is a nice group of people with a relaxed atmosphere.

Thanks for all the info! I'll definitely be checking out the club you mentioned. I also called Dorian today, and they are no longer taking any hunting dogs according to his wife. She said they are just doing trialing for now. They recommended Leroy in Bakersfield.

Also if there's a NAVHDA chapter nearby, they have great resources for the DIY trainer.

NAVHADA at Prado is a good choice. I have a friend, Ty Mitchel that helps out down there. He is a great guy and has some well trained dogs.
