Looking for a Trainer in the midwest
I have a Brit that is 8 months and I want to begin really working with him. Does anyone know of a good trainer in Indiana or surrounding states who takes dogs in and works with them? I had thought i would train him myself but I have decided to work with a professional... I want someone who has birds... finding trainers but they don't have birds to work with and that seems far fetched to me.

Tom at http://www.dalecreekgundogs.com/ raises his own birds and trains all levels (and breeds) of pointers

http://www.lumpyskennels.com in Wisconsin. I just had my britt there and she is doing great. My buddies britt was there too. I was concerned with my dog being softer and dale creek had mixed reviews on softer dogs. I wanted to go to dale creek as they are 5 miles from my house and might have with a different dog.

I had the total opposite result with DCG. I personally had a soft/smart pup that needed to be FF and DCG did a beautiful job! IMO you can't go wrong with either Tom or Jeff. I have known them both for over 10 years. I have seen Tom do wonders with some very soft setters...yetinme wrote:I was concerned with my dog being softer and dale creek had mixed reviews on softer dogs.

Just to be clear, I don't have any experience with Tom (dale creek) just with Jeff. Tom has a great reputation in the area and I have heard great things about him....
The mixed reviews were purely hear say and not meant to discredit Tom in anyway. I just had personal friends with dog's that were very similar to mine at Jeff's so that is why I went there.
Pntr - Where do you hunt? Great looking dog!

Something that you may be interested in as well is the local NAVHDA chapter.. We have excellent training days once a month and some experienced people to help you doh along. You may also find a trainer in the club to help you. PM me for more info. Our annual meeting is coming up.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

Any of the above mentioned places good for flushers or are they more pointer oriented? Thanks.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have considered Navhda.

NAVHDA is great if you are going to DIY. If you aren't or can't be committed to a block of time each day then having a trainer is a great option.IndianaBritt wrote:Thanks for all the feedback. I have considered Navhda.

Re: Looking for a Trainer in the midwest
I decided to send my Britt to Perfection Kennels. I talked to Jon for a while and just feel this is the best thing for me. I am super excited to see the results. I also joined the NSTRA Dog Club here in Central Indiana so that I have a place to work and maybe compete with him after his training. What a great piece of property and a great place to train and work your dogs! The people were very engaging and genuine. Very much looking forward to it all as we move into bird season this fall.
