Barking

Post by frosso » Sat Nov 24, 2012 8:17 pm

I've had trouble with my setter barking incessantly in the yard at birds in the neighbor's yard. I pulled out an old petsafe bark collar and set it on the lowest setting. She's been trained with an e-collar (used for recall). I was sitting in the living room when she barked outside with the collar on. I probably should have stayed outside to see her immediate reaction. She flew into the house and leaped in my lap and kept yelping which made the collar go off each time she yelped which made her yelp more. I unsnapped the collar and she spent the next 30 min burried in my lap.

Anyone got any advice on what to do next?

My dog's not spoiled ... I'm just well trained

Get an owl decoy and put it in a tree in your yard to chase the tweetys away

Get an e collar with an even lower setting, or put on the regular e collar you have and stimulate it from your window , when the dog is barking.

Stay with it. She will figure out its the barking causing the discomfort.
