Where to get pigeons

I've been told to get pigeons to introduce my dog to live birds. Where do I get pigeons? I did a search but couldn't find anyone selling them. I live in Virginia (Shenandoah Valley) and there aren't too many pigeons around.

I would try your local craigslist. Post in the wanted section "wanted pigeons caught or un-caught" I have had too much success with that description. Plenty of business owners paying for removal in my area. So I had plenty free for the taking.

Probably a lot more around than you know. Look in farmer's barns. They'll probably give them to you for the catching!

Local farm kids are usually willing to go and catch them for a couple bucks a bird. I have an amish connection that I pay 2 bucks a bird for and they go crawl around in the hay mows for me. 1 night they had a hundred in 45 minutes! Crazy to watch them climb all over in the dark!

I live in central jersey. I am also looking for either homing or regular pigeons. Not looking to spend a lot of money.

I'm in the suburbs south of Los Angeles and there are pigeons everywhere if you look for them. I bought a commercial trap and caught them for a while at the local park. But they are wise to the trap now and won't go in it. I"m thinking of building my own trap that is more inviting. Also, trapping at different locations helps. Be prepared for lots of questions if you trap in populated areas like supermarket parking lots etc.
