Unbelievable

Post by Sharon » Sun Mar 10, 2013 9:07 pm

and I thought I'd heard everything..........

Went to the bird auction this morning to pick up a couple pigeons for fun for my dogs. A guy there drove the price up everytime. He bought maybe 60+ birds at $3.00 a bird on average.... would have been close to $200.

I asked him what he did with all those birds.

Are you ready.......... " I take them home and free them like they are meant to be. "

hahahaha.......... That is funny. $180 later and he feels like he saved the world.

Not sure if you bird auction is local birds or if they get shipped in but I would guess those pigeons are gonna end up in a dogs mouth again anyways.

I get about 12 calls or emails a year from people asking if I would save pigeons for them.

I hope he was having a little fun at your expense.

There is a guy at the auction that I go to that buys birds to re-sell to dog trainers. He bids on every pigeon and drives the prices up.

I pay $10 for every pigeon I purchase and when training I expect at least 1/2 to fly away. I would love to get birds for $3. That said, I would start contacting the sellers before the auction and buying them before auction. Don

He was perfectly serious. I was a "little in his face" and told him that the homers just fly back home to be resold , and the roller/tumblers have been fed all their life abd would have trouble finding food , ( I have no idea if this is true.) plus a hawk would get most of them ..... at this point my husband took me away. :)

I free birds all the time -- sometimes out of a release catapult and sometimes under a bush. I give them at least a 2 second head start.

Why waste time going to the auction...................... get his address and deliver birds to him 3 times a week.

To each his own - if that makes him happy, he's not hurting anyone. Well, except for running the prices up for your birds that is! But yeah, start a good homing flock and sell them to him - you could chronicle it all and see how many return and see how many times you can get him to pay for the same bird. It would be a fun experiment.

not even with duct tape

DOCO has the ticket! This guy could serve to help you pay for some new training equipment, to build a BIGGER loft so you could raise even more birds..... Just imagine, the sky is the limit here if this guy really has the cash to burn!
