Pup catching dove

Post by Okiebb » Fri Sep 13, 2013 6:41 pm

It's not like I can do too much about it, but my 11 month old pup has managed to catch 3 dove in the backyard. 2 last night. Do you think this will affect her pointing in the field? Are our local dove extra slow?

Can't be good but a few wild birds she can't catch might get her right through it. The biggest problem I see with it is that it might screw up a sight point for a bit. I'm thinking saw obviously saw them on the ground, probably snuck up on them and then rushed them My Bodie does that with pigeons that are loose but, he never catch's them! Both my dog's do catch "bleep" birds in the hen house and evict them but it hasn't caused a problem.
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

Should not be a problem. The yard is not the hunting fields.

Agreed. My dog has killed 4 rabbits and a coon in my backyard, he will not chase or mess with them while in the field.
