Staying outside

Post by Beretta14 » Tue Jun 10, 2014 1:35 pm

We are wanting our GSP to be able to stay outside in the yard while we are at work instead of in the kennel. She refuses to be out there by herself and whines and scratches at the door constantly.....we have only let her stay out for 30 min or so. She is only 5 months old right now so we are hoping with age it will get better. Any advice or have y'all experienced this with your breed?

We were kenneling our GSP pup while at work (typical 8-5 workday). At about 5 months we put her in an outside 6 x 12 dog run and she did fine. I think your pup refuses to be outside because she knows your home and wants to be around you. Once you leave for work she should calm down. Just to make sure, we had a neighbor who is home all day keep an ear out for barking. My pup Tia is 7.5 months and staying outside by herself more and more while we are home so hang in there it will get better. We have a pigeon coop in the backyard so that probably helps LOL! You might want to consider a dog run as she will get bored and want to chew or dig.

Simple fix. Get another puppy for her to play with! :D

Don't leave her outside more than 4 hours in my city.

Well your pup has not even gotten old enough to learn about the joys of digging.Unless the dog is going to be kenneled outside during the day i personally would not leave my dogs unsupervised in my yard.Lots of bad stuff can happen when dogs particularly pups are bored. I have two Brittanys and they are double trouble.LOL

craziest part of his whole story is that it doesn't come from California. just ridiculous.
