VIDEO: Chukar Training Hunt

Post by Higgins » Mon Jul 21, 2014 11:40 pm

This is a video we shot last week during one of our chukar training hunts.

Once the dogs understand that steadiness leads to success and they begin to trust in our ability to help them, it's time to "season" them. I set up different, realistic hunts to help them gain experience and confidence for the real world.

I hope you enjoy this theatrical production. :D

Thanks for posting Brad. That looks like the country I'm used to hunting.

"I hope you enjoy this theatrical production." ROFLMAO You definitely have a sense of humor.

Really enjoyed the video. Thanks ( No land like that where I live and no wild chukar. :( )

Would I have to get around the fact of shooting pheasants in pheasant country if I were participating in a field trial or hunt test? Do you know how they "get around the law"?

They get a permit and band them.

yes but most of the time that is on private property. i thought that might be the answer, plus you are probably have leg bands. not just anyone can get those.
most of our chukar country is BLM and i was just curious how you would go about that.

I love chukar country!

We "train" for chukar hunting or hunting in general just by going hunting.

Great big running all age winning pointer finding and holding chuks for us, shooter failed his job!

Hello P&PGunsmith,

I have a dog/falconry training permit issued by the Dept. of Wildlife. I band all the birds and these training hunts are on BLM land.

If that is chukar country then there must be truth to the saying "You hunt chukar once for fun and anytime after that for revenge". :D
