Is 3 yrs old to late for an excellent high drive wild bird dog to start training for master Hunter?

The dogs don't know how old they are, I've heard that if the dog has a high drive for birds that's all that matters but I'm still new to the sport an have learned so much an got a long ways to go but that's just my two cents as the saying goes

Hardest thing you have to overcome is all the birds you already shot over it. That will probably take awhile.
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

Not too late, just bears remembering as you go forward is unlike a puppy a 3 year old has life experiences, habits, some bad some good maybe, that may make the training go along at a different pace with some hurdles to get over....

Or it may go quicker if its a smart, cooperative dog. Its just not the clean slate a puppy is....
The second kick from a mule is of very little educational value - from Wing and Shot.

Agree always better to paint on a clean canvas I once got a 3 year old Gsp took 3 months to get him to do what I needed from him, he was never steady to shot & wing held birds and rabbits well. I hunted with him till he was 12 from birds to hogs, duck & geese Biscuit was truly a awesome dog a real hunter.

Remember to have fun...

I definitely know you were paying attention last weekend now, you even remembered 1 liners from a wise bird dog man.

Submariner your avatar looks almost like a carbon copy of one of my dogs. How's he/she bred?

Not to even think about disputing what a wise 'ole trainer is offering up by any stretch, but...
I'd want to consider what the marking and handling skills of that 3 yr old dog are presently, before I'd get my hopes up on an immediate accomplishment of an MH-
-- high drive of birds or not.
What I'm saying- is that there's lots of dogs that have a great prey drive..but can the dog mark after 3 yrs of possible "ho hums" is what I'm saying.
"Ho hums" being of off and on training.
And respectfully saying it. 8)
