We just got a new lab puppy four weeks ago and my husband wants to start hunting. How do we go about the training process for our puppy? This is all new for us so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For now just work on socialization and potty training. Find a program for retrievers (there are a lot of good ones) and read through/watch the whole thing. Then join a local club for retrievers... Or find a local retriever trainer to mentor/help you.
Other than that, enjoy the ride!

I would point out that the first step in wishing to "start hunting" is not buying a puppy. The game you wish to persue begins such a quest. Flushing pheasants is a whole different ball game than retrieving waterfowl.

Very nice web site! Though I failed to see any helps on starting a Labrador pup. You may have some fine brits and other pointy types, but the OP would prolly be better off an Evan Graham type approach for his retriever. Especially seeing they the owners are so new to all of this.Pointing dog information and cultural basics would only confuse them at this stage.
For the OP contact Evan Graham here on this forum for some basic retriever information.

Good show, gundogguy - though consensus would be that this

socialization is the most important thing for any dog over the next couple months.

Also suggest you goggle and have a look at The SMARTWORK PUPPY PROGRAM

Your pup is a retriever. Give him what he needs. The SMARTWORK PUPPY PROGRAM.
