.22 Blanks??

Post by ohsq » Wed May 20, 2015 8:07 pm

I have a Champion .22 training pistol from LCS. I know there are some better training pistols out there but I have it bought now and think it will work fine as I'm training one dog. I have been shooting acorn crimps and was looking for a something a little louder. Can I fire ramset loads through this gun. I know cci makes a loud .22 blank but didn't
know if they would fit into my chamber. What works for you folks and what would be good enough for AKC field trials down the road?? Thank You!!!

For training, your crimps should work well for intro, then you can move up to shotgun "popper" loads. GunDog Supply has a nice video on their page about the differences....check it out. For HT and FT your crimps should be fine.
A dog on point.....steady, yet trembling,
Breathing in and tasting the gentle breeze.
Take a moment for yourself to soak it all in,
All the training, the hard work.....it really has paid off.

Any home improvement center, in the tool area. Will have 22 crimps for what they call a ramset gun. Its for driving nails into concrete. The brown box works very well. Thanks Jonesy

I cannot say if ramset loads will fit into your gun. Jonesy is right on. You gotta go to a home improvement center, get a box of #2 loads and try them to see if they fit. If not, you wasted about six bucks. No big deal.

CCI crimps are pretty loud, and if you can find black powder loads they are even louder. But the advice about pooper loads for a shotgun is good. Starter pistols make a higher pitched sound, shotguns, even with popper loads, go boom.

Thanks, I guess that not being a hunt test guy is why I never ran into them before.
