I just picked up my e collar for my setter pup today and I am going to start doing some intro for him soon and I'm contacting the trainer he will go to later but I also wanted to see what some of you recommend doing or not doing

Oh wow, that's a big question. There are chapters written on this topic. I'll give you two pieces of advice:
1. Listen to your trainer.
2. DO NOT shock him if you cannot see him.

If he's a pup, you can put in on him from four months on, just don't turn it on.

Let him wear it every time you go outside for several weeks before you even try to use the buttons. The short points are junk, throw them away, put on the long points, put the collar on above his normal collar and put it on snugly so that it makes contact at all times. If you use short points and the dog turns his head, it often leads to incomplete or no contact.
