NEWBIE QUESTION
NEWBIE QUESTION
I am the proud new owner of a male German shorthaired pointer puppy, FILE' pronounced (FEE-LAY) 10 weeks old today.I got him with the intention to train him for tracking downed whitetail deer and just to have a pet/companion. I have since become interested in training him for finding shed antlers as well. Do you think training him for both is possible? do any of you foresee any problems and know how to avoid them? Should i train him for one or the other first? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: NEWBIE QUESTION
Very possible, GSPs are trained to track anything from feathers to fur, they're also used to locate dead bodies.

Re: NEWBIE QUESTION
I may be wrong but i think the OP is asking if when the dog is asked to track a deer, while he be looking for sheds instead.

We're talking gsp. After he runs into his first bird he won't be looking for deer or sheds. Lol.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Re: NEWBIE QUESTION
I got him with the intention being to have a great companion and maybe track wounded deer. I just thought the antler hunting thing would be fun during the off season. So far this little guy has been the easiest puppy ever to Kennel train. He plays hard and he sleeps hard. love this dog.
