Crapping in the Crate

Post by Dakotazeb » Sat Jan 21, 2017 12:01 pm

I picked up a 6 month old female Brittany 2 weeks ago. The dog had lived in an outside kennel until she came to us so we have been working on house breaking her. We've had a few accidents but I think right now she is pretty much trained. Goes to the door when she has to go. However, we've started having a new problem. When we leave the house she is crated and the last two times she was left alone she crapped in her crate. I have her in a smaller crate so size of the crate isn't the issue. I basically think it's a problem of separation anxiety. I'm hoping she out grows this fast. Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you only crate her when you leave. If so you might try crating her for shorter periods while you are home. If the crate becomes her den she will not have anxiety when left in it.........................Cj

That's exactly what we are going to start doing. Thanks.

Other than that, how are you and the new pup getting along.

Only been two weeks but we are doing great. Seems to be a quick learner. Actually quite anxious to get her back to South Dakota in April and start the field work. For now it's some yard work and basic obedience. Bree is an extremely loving and calm dog in the house. Had her to the dog park today and she got to running with a couple bigger dogs. She certainly has the wheels and is very athletic. Going to be interesting how she turns out but I think she will be a force at the Mid-North NSTRA trials.
