VIDEO: Pheasant Restoration Project

Post by Higgins » Mon Jan 15, 2018 3:54 pm

Here is a link to a video that shows a successful pheasant restoration project. I banded all the birds when they were released, and we were still harvesting them seasons later. Lots of successful breeding in the subsequent seasons too.

Hope you enjoy it.

Very Nice!
I always enjoyed "lamping" on my time in the UK! It really gave it some purpose when i knew we were protecting the birds.

I enjoyed the video Brad. I have a number of gamekeeper friends and one of them noticed something I found interesting as he was "whistling in " his birds. He was using one of the so called silent dog whistles and he found that a certain sound pitch actually caused the birds to move away from him. I don't use silent dog whistles but wondered if the people that do use them in our field trials ever wondered why their dogs weren't finding many birds !

Could the pheasants be associating that pitch of sound with the call of a bird of prey ?
