Hunt training

Post by duckingtugboat29 » Fri Aug 24, 2018 10:46 am

Hey guys new to the forum so thanks in advance for any help. I tried to post before but it didn’t seem to work so hopefully this doesn’t post twice.

I have a 6 month old chessie. He is a fetching machine and is incredibly smart. Catches on to everything and super eager to please.

I was wondering what basic obedience commands he needs to fully know before I start teaching more in depth hunting training. He knows sit, stay, heel, here and all that jazz and is very consistent with them. Anything else he needs before I really start training him. Also, is 6 months a good age to start really getting him going for hunting training? When should I start to force fetch him?

I live in the Denver area so any gun dog trainers you guys know and would recommend let me know! Thanks!

What you ask is incredibly involved. Best thing to do is by a Retriever DVD set like Smart Works by Evan Graham and proceed EXACTLY as he advises.
LIFE WITHOUT BIRD DOGS AND FLY RODS REALLY ISN'T LIFE AT ALL.

Wow! ..I dont know about others who read your post , but my breathing was getting faster the more I read ..
I doubt very much that any DVD or preferred program suggested will suit (imo) , best you tag along with someone in your area who been around your block a few times , or at the least can show you face to face . .. with you and your dog .
