Beginner seeking JH test assistance in Lima, OH

Post by roghatch » Wed Jan 31, 2007 10:24 am

I am looking for some assistance on getting started with AKC hunt tests. I live in the Lima, OH area and am looking for someone that can let me watch, help me on nights and weekends, and to introduce me to field and hunt tests.

I have one 18 month old female Vizsla, we go for "staged" hunts at a local farm on the weekends.

Roghatch.

My advice is go to a hunt test and watch and then enter your dog in the next one. That's what many of us have done. JH takes little if any training since the purpose is to check the natural abilities of your pup. When and if you decide to move on to the next levels then you will have to do the training.

Go, watch, ask some questions if needed, and enjoy. Once you have completed that you are ready to get your feet wet.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Always looking for new people (and dogs) to train with up here. We actually are only about an hour away from Lima. I went to high school in Lima at 2 different schools years ago...

If you are willing to come up, we can show you the ropes.

Roger:

Welcome! Thanks for looking this site up! These guys will help you get started. If you want to come down towards Columbus in the spring we can help you out. I'm sure your dog will do fine at the JH level.

Good luck with your dog and we'll be seeing you around. I'll be e-mailing you about that trial.
