Trekmoor, interesting isn't it - that whole setting trait. The modern setter need no longer set at all. Although, if the poor dogs have to point "under" some folk shooting a 12 gauge semi-auto, 22 inch barrel with a cylinder choke and 3 1/2" #8 shot while quail hunting, "setting" may make a come-back!

When my dog is really strong on holding it's points and has the proper maturity and hunting drive, I may very well seek the trainer/breeders help to teach the dog to be steady to wing and shot. It might be fun to trial my dog, if it turned out to have that level of talent.
