Illinois Training Areas???

Post by MyDogDaisy » Wed May 09, 2007 8:24 pm

Hey all I'm new to the forum and new to gun dog training. I have an 5 month old GSP that I would like to work with as much as possible but I am having trouble finding areas to train in.

Does anyone know places to train near the Western Suburbs of Illinois?

Thanks for the help.

Get hold of the GSP club. They are a great group and will help you. You arent too far from the DesPlalnes area which is good and there are others also.

Welcome to our forum.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Go to www.navhda.org
There is a "chapter locator" link
Most NAVHDA Chapters have monthly training days.
That will get you in touch with someone near you.
Good luck with your pup.

Fish and Wildlife Areas's (FWA) usually have an area that they use for training dogs.

Try Silver Springs. That's right by you in Yorkville, off of Rt 47. There's a dog training area over there by the trap range. See website below for permit info.

Also try Des Plaines Conservation Area. It's a little further, but much larger, & there are always hunt clubs doing field trials on the weekend, So, if you can get out there on a Monday, there should be some leftover quail running around!

Fermilab was surprisingly nice with a pretty large off leash area with dog training pond. They are open til 8pm and you just tell the guy at the gate you are there to train your dog. Plus it is free. (as are the woodticks, so spray yourself)
the NAVHDA group I have gone to has training days in Seneca, IL.Very nice group of people!
