forced retrieve

Post by ohiogsp » Sun Nov 21, 2004 8:12 pm

I have just joined this forum and I think this is a great site. My question is to those who have FF dogs before. I am finishing my male gsp up right now. The last thing we have was FF and he did well I am now shooting birds for him to retrieve, he is starting to retrieve them. My question is when I hunt both my dogs together and send him for the retrieve he is very consitant. It is like he is bringing the bird back to show my female he can do it. Anyone had experience with this. Or do you think this has little to do with it.

Is the dog failiing in his retrieves at times?

How old is this dog?

I would really hold off on FF. It has it's place. But usually not.

There are other, better ways to train a dog to retrieve properly. They take longer, but you get better results, I think.

Sorry about that, I have already FF him. I am changing from throwing a dead bird to shooting the bird for him to retrieve.
