I've got a great source for Southern IN, so if you strike out elsewhere, let me know.

I am 30 mile past the border. Hoosier, you are from fort wayne, the best bird farm ever to exist was in Ashley, IN. I used to go there all the time but they retired. Man was that a great place to buy birds. Ever get birds there? Some of the prices were like $5 for full grown pheasants $2 for quail.

You talking about poverty knob?

I have amish kid now that has all kinds of birds with really good prices and the best part is he lives about 5 miles from where I train. It's nice just to pick up what I need on the way.

I know of several suppliers in central Indiana, but they're all out of birds right now. I've been buying quail from Jefferson County Game Bird Farm in Louisville, KY recently. He raises about 150,000 a year from what I'm told.

Anyone know of a Central Indiana supplier who still has birds?

Finding good birds in late winter and early spring can be difficult particularly if you're just wanting shooters.

I buy 9 week old birds in late Aug or early Sept. install them in my Johnny houses and have good flying training birds for 8 months till pair up time. Then I release them and use homers till late August again.

The IDNR has a list of all licensed game breeders in Indiana. It's available through them. Be aware that they're getting very heavy handed with their restrictions for the breeders and I suspect some breeders will say the h-ll with it and quit.

Dustertoo,

The large breeder that you refer to.....is that Pepper?

I know of a breeder in Corydon (Southern IN) who might have some left. Call Mike Pryor @ 812-738-1787. Hands down the best flying birds that I've ever bought.

Mark
