Delval Brittany Club Field Trial Date Change

Post by Karen » Sun Jul 20, 2008 6:03 am

Pending grounds approval (which shouldn't be an issue), the Delval Brittany Club's fall field trial will be held on October 31, November 1st and 2nd (moved from early September). The AKC calendar has already been updated, as has the ABC schedule. We're very excited about this change in date as it should offer much cooler temps and the cover should be down!

Friday - Open Limited Gun Dog 1 hour stake

Saturday - Open Puppy
Open All Age
Amateur Gun Dog

Sunday - Amateur All Age
Open Derby
Open Gun Dog

All stakes are horseback and are open to ALL POINTING BREEDS and the club has made the decision that the AA stakes will NOT be cancelled even if there are only a few dogs entered, and there WILL be a wrangler at this trial. The trial will be held at the English Setter Club of America in Medford, NJ.

Please mark your calendars!

I noticed it on the AKC site. I like the cooler temps! And I'm actually off that weekend so I will most likely be there! I'm surprised the Setter Club had that weekend available.

Karen,

I'm pretty sure I'm free that weekend so I'd like to come and observe and even help out if needed. Just let me know.

Wonderful Wendy! John Perry is running the trial so next time you see him at the club, definitely let him know. Freeland KC grounds are probably better suited for your dogs, so you might want to keep Anthracite's date open (November 8 & 9) alsok so you can see the difference the grounds make. Claire & Joe from the club run that trial and Helen is usually there too, so you'll definitely know people at that one too.

I'm going to try and make it to a few different ones this fall to get a feel for it. I'll most likely be running Emerald as she is turning out to be our best FT prospect and our puppy may or may not be ready to run then also. We won't be running AKC until after Jan 1st so I have time to learn as much as I can before they actually can compete.

Can you exlain the different between the grounds as to how they will be better for different types of dogs? It's all new to me. Thanks!

Medford's grounds are pretty wide open and a big running shooting dog shows well there and the judges the clubs hire that run at Medford like dogs like Jack, Petey, Diamond and the Jack puppies. The next time you're at the club on running dog day, watch Diamond, Brandy, Padi and Cruise run.

Anthracite's grounds are tighter and more heavily covered. A dog that doesn't run as big or as fast tends to look better on grounds with more cover. Blaze did really well at Anthracite this past season (2nd in a 33 dog OGD stake) but doesn't look great at Medford because he doesn't have the speed many of Pete's other dogs have.

Hope that makes sense.

yes, it makes sense, thanks! Emerald may end up doing better at Medford, but Rylee would do better at the second one for sure. I'm looking forward to attending and learning from everyone.

By chance, do any of you Britt folks know if the Hudson Valley Britt trial will have handlers horses?
We really would like to go up for that trial, but don't have our own.
Thanks

Wayne Skubilec will be there with horses. You can find the premium at: http://clubs.akc.org/brit/ClubPremiums/ ... T_fall.pdf

I saw Darlene Dow & Ed Kostka over the weekend. They have over 40 entries in the OGD and 20 in the walking AGD already, so it's going to be a BIG trial!
