Region 9 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship

Post by DGFavor » Mon Sep 22, 2008 12:00 am

Fun times at the Region 9 ASD championships yet again near American Falls, ID hosted by the Eastern Idaho Bird Dog Club. Contestants came from California, Utah, Montana, Alberta, and Idaho anxious to compete on what many consider the best shooting dog grounds in the west. The 19 entered dogs (13 pointers, 3 setters, 3 GSP's) battled it out on 3 one hour courses on native birds with every brace having ample opportunity for bird work on sharptails, sage grouse, huns and 1 wily rooster. We also saw elk and moose on course or in camp to add to the wildlife excitement. Judges were Tim Fullerton of Rigby, ID and Jack Cafferty of Boise, ID.

Continuing their winning ways at this trial, with a win and runner up in the last two runnings of this championship, the Heaton team showed Idaho's Lucky Lady to her 3rd championship. Rich Heaton handled Lady in an excellent race with 3 pieces of perfect bird work (2 finds,1 STF) on sharptails in the 4th brace. Many of the folks that had already run opted to pack up and head home and those yet to run wondered what they were gonna do to beat her. None did. Atta girl Ladybuggies!!

The RU position was hotly contested by those trying to be the best of the worst. Slight bobbles with otherwise good efforts by a few dogs made it a crapshoot and luck fell on HBV Dunfur's Plan B for his 2nd hour championship placement. Bugsy carded finds on a sharptail and sage hens. Good job Bugglyboy!!

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Congrads Doug on the placement but who in the world is that guy holding Bugs?
Has nothing to do with luck just boot leather and a fine GWP...

Thanks all! Rich's Lady did a great job. I've watched her hunting, training, and competing since she was a youngster, scouted her during two Nat'l Am. Chukar wins and an Idaho St. RU Ch - I think this was her best showing hands down. No scouting, always forward, hunting intelligent with just a hint of reckless abandon, intensity to burn on her birds, stellar manners. Very, very good. Glad to be on their team for sure and huge congrats to Rich for another championship win!!
