Why was 1st place withheld and 2nd place awarded? If the dogs performance wasn't good enough for points, shouldn't 2nd place have been withheld too, and the britt awarded 3rd?

According to AKC rules:
"Judges should withhold 2nd place in an Open Stake if the placement of that dog would not merit championship points should the dog placed 1st be found to be ineligible"

Since first was not awarded, no points to award to a second place.SDGORD

According to AKC rules:
"Judges should withhold 2nd place in an Open Stake if the placement of that dog would not merit championship points should the dog placed 1st be found to be ineligible"
Since 1st wasn't awarded there is no possibility of the first place dog being found ineligible and the second place dog moving up to get the points.

tough deal for the judges to have to do, and handlers do not like it. but necessary to preserve the field trial standard. it is not best dog of the day, it is best dog of the day after the standard is met.

Rob

Thanks again for coming over and congrats on the Derby win with Magnum.

I like to hear that people had a good time, our club works hard to try to put on a better event each time we have one.
