Hunt Tests

Post by lvrgsp » Mon Sep 25, 2006 12:15 pm

Are hunt tests breed specific? I would guess they are not but was curious. My goal is to get a master on Jack and since many clubs use the Des Plaines ground for hunt tests it gives me a close venue with more runs. I know the weim club has a hunt test coming up in october thats why i am asking.

...Thanks

All AKC hunt tests I have ever seen have been open to all AKC registerable pointing breeds.

Very good. I thought that was the way it should be. Thanks for the reply.

Lvrgsp where are you from? I'll hopefully be running in 2 hunt tests this weekend with the wirehair club at desplaines to finish my pups JH. I've heard the Weim club puts on a really good test but thats the same weekend as the Illinois Navhda testing which will be held on the east grounds so i'm guessing the weim test is on the west grounds

I live in central IL. Just south of Bloomington, it's about 90 miles from Des Plaines. I wanted to go to the wire trial but I'm pouring concrete this weekend for my patio and sidewalk, that way I have a free hunting pass for the season from my wife..........ha ha.

Hey sounds good. I was hoping to get his junior done this fall, but I will work on finishing it in the spring now it looks like.

I have had a run-in with an AKC Hunt Test that was only open to pointers - to coordinate with a pointer specialty show in the same county. It's the only one I've seen like that and it wasn't at Des Plaines. Every test I've been to at Des Plaines has been open to all breeds.

Look for these clubs holding tests there in the spring and again in the fall:

Vizsla Club of IL = http://www.vizslaclubofillinois.org
GSP Club of IL = http://www.gspci.org
LaSalle Brit Club = http://www.lasallebrittanyclub.com
GWP Club of IL = http://kj9t.150m.com/GWPCI/GWPCI17
Weim Club of IL = http://www.wcni.org

Come to think of it I judged a HT at the Wirehair Nationals last year that was closed to wires only. Good memory here, sorry.

Good I'm glad to hear that, most of my tests will probably be run at
Des Plaines.

If a hunt test is held in conjunction with a breeds National event, it can be closed to that breed.

Other than that, they must be open to all breeds.
