ALL-AMERICA OPEN SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
Allison, TX—Seahorse’s Max Jack was named the All-America Open Shooting Dog Champion over a strong field of 36 dogs. This is the first championship won by the exciting white and black pointer male owned by Dr. Bob Dow of Norman, OK, and handled by Jack Herriage.
Last season’s Top Shooting Dog Award winner, Elhew Hannabell, white and black pointer female, pressed the champion to take runner-up honors for owners Drs. Robin and Thomas Morgan of Colorado Springs, CO, and handler Shawn Kinkelaar.
In the accompanying Open Derby, first was Gander Creek Jack, setter male owned by Jim Rice of Mount Pleasant, NC, and handled by Gary Hill. Second was awarded to Sassy, pointer female owned by Drs. Robin and Thomas Morgan and handled by Shawn Kinkelaar. Zap, pointer female owned by Greg Miller and handled by Shawn Kinkelaar, was named to third.
The trial started October 9 at the Parnell Ranch (Ric Peterson/George Newcomb training grounds) near Allison, TX.
Judges for both events were John Benoist of Fort Worth, TX, and Dr. Buck Neil of Benbrook, TX.

INTERNATIONAL PHEASANT CHAMPIONSHIP
Harpster, OH—The International Pheasant Championship drew 40 entries and concluded Saturday, October 14. The winner of this year’s renewal was Cedaroak Bee Sting, three-year-old pointer female owned and handled by Tom Honecker of Findlay, Ohio. Runner-up honors went to Erin’s Prairie Princess, pointer female owned and handled by Sean Derrig of Bannockburn, IL. Both dogs had multiple pheasant finds.
Judges for this renewal were Pat Roach of Huntertown, IN, and Dr. Jim Mills of Searcy, AR.
The companion Open Derby drew nine young dogs. Erin’s Backstreet Affair, pointer female and recent winner of the American Field Pheasant Futurity, won first. Second was S F Plywood, pointer male owned and handled by Larry L. Smith of Altoona, IA. Sage Creek Wildfire, pointer female owned by Sage Creek Kennels and handled by Randy Anderson, placed third.
NATIONAL PHEASANT CHAMPIONSHIP
Harpster, OH—The 2006 renewal of the revived National Pheasant Championship was concluded around noon on Thursday, October 19. Forty-two dogs were drawn and the winner was Phantom’s Last Dime, pointer male owned by Larry Lee, Larry Carter and R. O. Berryhill and handled by Fred Dileo. Runner-up honors went to Erin’s Tin Soldier, pointer male owned and handled by Sean Derrig of Bannockburn, IL. Both dogs had finds on pheasant and quail.
The judges were John “Buzzy” Daugherty of Russellville, AR, and Ronnie Spears of Jacksonville, AR
