nov walking trial

Post by larue » Wed Oct 11, 2006 5:00 am

We are once again holding our 4 lakes walking trial,on the 11th and 12 of nov.We are haveing dave hill and mike kindler judge the adult stakes,
while ruth blank, and chris benskin are judgeing the juvenile stakes.
The grounds look good, with plenty of water.
Hope to see some of you there,we have had good success at this trial
in the past.I have been told it was like trialing was 20 years ago,as we get almost all am handlers, with no one guy handling a dozen dogs.
Food, shelter, area's to stake out dogs, horses are availble.

Here is link to the trialhttp://www.akc.org/events/search/index. ... 2006349003

These are great walking trial grounds in the most basic sense....if I was hunting this is the type of area I would be hunting pheasants in.

Mostly amateurs are entered but the competition is stiff with lots of good dogs. Last year had a number of FCs and I think in a DC or two entered. I believe in last years amateur gun dog there were 18 starters and I think 14-15 dogs made it around clean with multiple finds.

Anyone that enjoys a walking trial or field trialing in it's purest form should give this one a look see.

Just an update, the grounds are almost all mowed, the crops are still up yet,
they should be picked very soon.
As a suggestion,if you are coming to the trial,I would bring some good boots,it has been a wet fall, and you there are a couple of spots you will need boots,if you like dry feet.
If anyone running would like to train on the grounds, just give me a call,
the grounds are in training condtion now,I have enough mowed to get
a good day of training in.
Foot or horseback training is ok.

I will send you one via email in the morning, right know my son has my computer with all my stuff tied up playing wow! (once on he plays for hours)
I am useing my daughters computer,Ijust do not have anything on this one.
The grounds are really shapeing up,the farmer is picking the soybeans as I write, and I have done a ton of mowing(we got a new tractor so I am enjoying It).
we do not have alot of entries yet,we have been averageing about 43 the last two years. It makes for a real easy going trial.
We might have quite a treat to eat this year, jack marchese is going boar hunting the week before Our trial,.he tells me he will bring the pig back and we will roast it on the grounds for sat night!
I will update everyone if this happens.
I hope we can continue to get enough entries to keep a walking trial going,
the 4 lakes club has only held one the last 2 years.

Going out to Hoke's trial to judge sure has helped you upgrade the food offerings. Man I hope Jack gets one.

Entries should be fine, walking trials are a great way to get new people involved and allows people to showcase a good dog without having to get or even being able to ride. I like hitting as many walking trials as I can.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

As of now,we are just one pup short of a puppy stake,we need one more
puppy!
We have a 1 or 2 point derby,with 7 entries,one more makes it a 2 pointer.
we have 13 in the am gundog,for a 3 pointer,with a solid 2 point open.
Although small we have 4 fc's running in the am gundog, some proven winners in it.
the grounds look good,we are grilling chicken for lunch,
it should be a great relaxed trial, bring your fishing pole to try your luck on our catch and release private pond.
see you at the trial.

What kind of fish are stocked in your pond? I told my 9 yr old about this and he might be interested in coming by a wetting a line.

trial went well,we had some good dog work, the snow was fun,the dark dogs had an advantage for once, and the birds were easier to find.
We finished on sunday early,in the day.
these are the winners by my memory.
puppy
1st atrium's o c cohen steve neuses
2nd shusters ma ma girl rob shuster
3rd atrium super cooper steve neuses
4th wing havens jade jack marchese

derby
1st haven's straight shooting shelly

am gundog
1st cebourne's highroll-n-angle tim zick
2nd sandhill's b a bonnie jack marchese
3rd larue's blazing fire
4th fc shooting starr's mad maxwell mh

open

1st baron von gunner mary bregar
2nd larues blazing fire
3rd fc howies b a haven jack marchese
withheld 4th

The highlight for me was watching max teach my son how to handle him
in a broke stake, max just lead him around the course, found a bird and when My son turned away after blanking the bird, max heeled out with him
without a command from my son.
I got eva around but no birds, and she was gone most of the time,a bad combination,a very slow guy walking, with a very fast all age dog.
we had two dogs not make it through the callback,in the open,
who where very nice in the field, and would have changed placements for sure.
I was happy with max and blaze, but they are starting to show there miles,
the younger dogs are much quicker, and more attractive to watch.

Nice trial! I look forward to next years edition, hopefully my dog performs a bit better.

I stayed in the Wisconsin Dells with my wife, two kids, and my father. Only a 20 minute drive to the grounds and the family had a great time at the hotel's indoor waterpark. A real easy way to convice he family we need to go to a field trial!!!!

As a plus with that SE wind at my back the old Dodge got over 16 mpg on the way home.
