BENTON COUNTY (MISS.) TRIALS
Michigan City, MS—The Benton County trials returned once again to Whippoorwill Farm near Michigan City, MS, for the 2006 running, the Open All-Age attracting 39 contenders, the Open Derby, 19.
Whippoorwill Firebox continued her winning ways after having won the Oklahoma Open Championship in early November by winning the All-Age Stake. The white and orange pointer female is owned by Earl J. Connolly of Memphis and was handled by Larry Huffman. Second was Cypress Gunpowder, pointer male owned by Dr. Larry Mitchell of Franklin, TN, and David Nutt of Ridgeland, MS, and handled by Andy Daugherty. Third was Whippoorwill Wild Agin, pointer male owned by Dr. J. D. Huffman of Michigan City, MS, and Dr. Terry Terlep of Ft. Myers, FL, and handled by Huffman.
Winner of the Derby was Cancoon Ty, pointer male owned by Tom Youree of Old Hickory, TN, and handled by Randy Downs. Second was Whippoorwill Hot Dame, pointer female owned by Preston Trimble of Norman, OK, and handled by Allen Vincent. Crowding Billy earned third; the pointer is shown in the ownership of Cliff Dant of Owensboro, KY.
Judges for the All-Age were Brad Harter of Athens, OH, and Greg St. John of Fulton, TN; for the Derby, Marty Rinehart of Rienzi, MS, and Greg St. John.

GRAND NATIONAL GROUSE AND WOODCOCK INVITATIONAL
The Christmas Issue (December 9) carried the names of dogs that have earned points toward the Grand National Grouse and Woodcock Invitational to be held in April in Meredith, MI. Chip’s Little Spark, pointer female owned by Steve and Ginny Chiappini of Butler, PA, is shown as having 216 points. Her actual total is 1216.
Judges for the Invitational have been voted on and selected. Accepting the assignments are Dave Terhaar of Allegan, MI, and George M. Johnson of Bradford, PA. David Fletcher of Morrice, MI, well report the trial which will be held April 18-20 in Meredith, MI.

M. F. FERGUSON OPEN SHOOTING DOG CLASSIC
Ardmore, OK— The M. F. Ferguson Shooting Dog Classic and Northwest Oklahoma Derby Classic were held on the Preston Trimble Field Trial Area, Lake Murray, at Ardmore, OK. Twenty-four dogs competed in the Shooting Dog Classic, and ten in the Derby.
Broadway Magic, pointer female owned by Jim Stiles of Helena, OK, and handled by Chuck Taylor, had three outstanding finds and an upfront race to win the Shooting Dog Classic. Second was Broadway Joker, nine-year-old veteran pointer male owned by Brad Calkins of Denver, CO, and handled by Taylor. Joker had a real limb find. Placed third was High Tail Dan, classy pointer male owned by Ken Teague of Springfield, MO, and handled by Jerry Hailey. Dan had a big race and one good find.
Broadway Bumblebee, outstanding pointer female owned by Jim Blackwood of Edinboro, PA, and handled by Chuck Taylor, topped the field in the Derby Classic with a huge race and one solid covey find. Earning second was Trailrider’s Delight, pointer female owned by Mike Faherty of Liberty Hill, TX, and handled by Frank Ford. Third place was Fargo’s Limited Edition, pointer male owned by Linda Smith of Denver, CO, and handled by Chuck Taylor. Edition had a good solid race, one find and an unproductive.
Judges for both stakes were Bob Barker of Inola, OK, and George Miller of Denver, CO.

REGION 6 AMATEUR ALL-AGE CHAMPIONSHIP
Fisherville, TN—Thirty-five dogs were drawn and 34 started in the Region 6 Amateur All-Age Champioinship at Fisherville, TN. Emerging as the winner in this highly contested Championship was Coldwater Flirt, coming three-year-old pointer female for Gary McKibben of Hernando, MS. Runner-up laurels for the second year in a row went to Windy Hill Dreamworks, pointer female owned and handled by Jim Waddell of Brownsville, TN.
Judges for this renewal were Steve Butler of Somerville, TN, and Chip Pantell of Stanton, TN.

U.S. COMPLETE NATIONAL AMATEUR INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Ahoskie, NC—The U.S. Complete National Invitational Championship was held on Dec 15-17. Twelve dogs were invited. Class Act Spur, pointer male owned and handled by David Keck, emerged as winner.
Judges were Bobby Kirk and Steve Egts of North Carolina.
