wild birds
i wish....i'll be lucky to spot a wild bird around illinois. our bird population is nothing thanks to coyotes. last year i asked a few farmes if they have seen any roosters on there property, and one guy said that in the past 5 years, he has only seen one rooster on his farm. well if you go past central illinois, you may find some bird population there. suxs when you can only hunt conservation birds.

Just caught this post and thought I'd reply.............here in Western and Central Wisconsin I had mixed luck. The grouse numbers were dismal but still managed to take quite a few with ALOT of walking and days in the woods. Woodcock flight this year seemed to be a bit sporadic as well but was still able to bag enough of them to keep the beast, (my Weim) interested. The pheasant numbers here in Western WI was unbelievably good!!! Best numbers I've ever seen. Hopefully the grouse numbers start climbing but I'm not holding my breath as the drumming counts were down again this year. Sorry for the long post and shoot straight!!!
In central and southern Illinois, the best luck is with quail. There's tons of em. In central and northern Illinois the best luck is with phesants. Not too many quail north of Champaign, and not too many phesants south.

quail
bobwhite is right thats what you here in florida middle of hunting season & its 78 degress outside
sd pheasants
We are taking lots of pheasants again this year. Our prarie grouse are better than last year but still in a down cycle. We hunt mostly public land and if you are willing to work and walk you can usually harvest limits of birds. We have a very limited amount of quail in the south east part of the state. I usually start looking for them after Thanksgiving. So hopefully the first week or two of December we may be able to get after them.SDGORD
