CANADIAN OPEN SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
Clinton, ON—The new Canadian Shooting Dog Champion is Enhancement Thrillogy, pointer male owned by Tom and Myrtle Hance of Prince Frederick, MD, handled by Mike Tracy. Belfield Silver, pointer male owned by Don Frigo of Caledon East, ON, handled by Mike Hester, won runner-up honors.
Judges were Alene LeVasseur of Franklin, CT, and Tom Tracy of Lebanon, CT.
In the Derby Classic (14 entries), first was Cold Case, pointer male owned by Bob Reed and Tom Tracy of Lebanon, CT, handled by Mike Tracy. Second was Dancing Tess, pointer female owned by Arthur Mourino of Mechanicsville, VA, handled by George Tracy. Third was Buffalo Creek, pointer male owned by Roland Kane of Blackstone, VA, handled by Mike Tracy. Judges were Scope Renfroe of Union Springs, AL, and Dan Ballistella of Ontario.

REGION 13 AMATEUR SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
Clinton, ON—The Region 13 Amateur All-Age Championship judges were Brian Sullivan of Dillon, SC, and Scope Renfroe of Union Springs, AL. They named Clark’s Black Copper, setter male, handled by Brian Sanchez and owned by Great River Kennels the winner.
Runner-up Rail’s Powerstroke, pointer male again handled Brian Sanchez for Great River Kennels, was runner-up.

REGION 9 AMATEUR SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
American Falls, ID—Canadian Pete, three-year-old pointer male owned and handled by Joe Brinster of Lake Stevens, WA, won the Region 9 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship. Pete had a strong race and two finds on chukars. Earning runner-up was last year’s winner Tip Top Dollar, nearly a six-year-old pointer male owned by Larry and June McConnell of Meridian, ID, and handled by Larry. Tip also had a strong race and two finds, one on a sharptail grouse and one on a pair of chukars. The judges of this 32-dog event were Rich Robertson of Payette, ID, and Hal Perry of Payson, UT.
Spectre Pete, pointer male owned by Herb Anderson of Dayton, OR, and handled by Rich Robertson, won first in the Everton Derby Classic over fifteen other derbies. Garnering second was Lindley’s Cloudy Daisy, pointer female owned by Curtis and Kim Sampson of American Fork, UT, and handled by Kim. Third place went to Deception’s Hero, pointer male owned by Jeff Gilbertson of Acampo, CA, and handled by Robertson. The judges were Glen Wiese of Layton, UT, and John Mandell of Gallatin Gateway, MT.
REGION 4 AMATEUR SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
Richmond, KY—Erin’s Prairie Princess, Derby-age white and liver pointer female, rendered a scintillating four-find effort to win the Region 4 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship title in a field of 72 at the Central Kentucky Wildlife Area near Richmond, KY. Princess is owned and handled by Sean Derrig of Bannockburn, IL. Runner-up was Blue Reissue, white and black setter male owned and handled by Donnie Mullins of Berea, KY. Reissue had three finds.
The mammoth entry was composed of 55 pointers, 14 setters and 3 Red setters for judges Peter Del Collo of Newtown Square, PA, and Scott Kermicle of Dry Ridge, KY.

FIELD TRIAL CLUBS OF ILLINOIS
Wilmington, IL—The Field Trial Clubs of Illinois held their annual Continental Breed Winners’ Classic April 2-3 at the Des Plains Wildlife Area East Grounds. The All-Age Classic winner was “Buddy” (owned by Joe Vicari). He ran a huge race; always to the front with a classic limb find. He was the clear-cut winner. No runner-up was named.
In the Jim Batson Derby Classic, “Sam” (owned by Terry Trzcinski), ran an all age race and was found on point twice to the front with excellent style and acceptable derby manners. “Thyme” (owned by Julie Harter) ran a shooting dog race with two bird contacts. Pushing the winners was “Chili” (owned by Terry Trzcinski) who ran a huge shooting dog race with one find but was gone for a period in the middle.
The winner of the Shooting Dog Classic was “Dubb” (owned by Kevin Remmers). He ran a wide hunting pattern, always to the front and digging in the cover. Dubb had finds at 6 min.,18 min. and 24 min. All handled with class and style for a very good performance. The runner-up, “Ziggy” (owned by Pennie Willis), ran a wide shooting dog race with one good find at 22 min. which he handled with good manners and style. Closest to the winners were “Jack” (owned by Joe Vicari) with a good race and 3 finds and “Rocky” (owned by Mike Henry) with a good race and 2 finds.
The Puppy Classic winner was “Zoe” (owned by Pennie Willis) with a wide race always hunting and forward. The runner-up, “Ranger” (owned by Ed Pogson), also ran a very nice race. These are two very good young prospects.
Judging the All-Age and Open Derby stakes were Vince Feltner and Mark Johnson. Dennis Sullivan and Mark Johnson judged the Open Shooting Dog and Open Puppy.

MICHIGAN OPEN SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
Ionia, MI—The popular Michigan Open Shooting Dog Championship returned once again to the Ionia Recreation Area near Ionia, MI, where 30 dogs were drawn to compete in the Michigan Derby Classic, and 74 were paired for the titular stake, judged by Dr. Bob Anderson of Selma, AL, and Jim N. White of Bowling Green, KY.
Winner of the Derby fixture was Browntown Rolling Roxey, white and liver pointer female, owned by Auddie Brown of Kingstree, SC, and handled by Luke Eisenhart. Runner-up was Klee’s Shooting Star, white and liver pointer female owned by Andrea W. Clark of Ridgeland, SC, and handled by Mike Tracy.
The new Michigan Shooting Dog Champion, with a seven-find performance is Elhew Sunflower, white liver and ticked pointer female, owned by Bryce Flaming of Wichita, KS, and Rob Butler of LaGrange, KY, and handled by Shawn Kinkelaar. Runner-up was Hifalutin, five-year-old white, liver and ticked pointer female, owned by Dr. Roger and Susan Duerksen of Pittsburgh, PA, and handled by Mike Tracy. She also was credited with seven finds.
The trial ran pretty well on schedule except for one day lost to a spring snow storm that swept through South-central Michigan.

REGION 2 AMATEUR ALL-AGE CHAMPIONSHIP
Lacey Township, NJ—Twenty-six dogs from as far away as Virginia and Iowa were drawn to compete in the Region 2 Amateur All-Age Championship held April 22-24 at Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area, Lacey Township, NJ.
Topping the field was Ravenwood Riley, setter male owned and handled by Joseph Cincotta of Stockton, NJ. Little Hope Chunky, pointer male owned and handled by Jim Blackwood of Edinboro, PA, was runner-up.
Brian Sanchez of Central Islip, Long Island, NY, and Charlie Samperisi of Lindenhurst, NY, were the judges.

WESTERN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Reno, NV—The Championships were concluded on Friday, April 22. In the Open Shooting Dog Championship (17 pointers and 8 setters), Tian’s Just Peachy, Tim and Angela Schillereff’s pointer female, was named champion. She was handled by Sheldon Twer. The runner-up, owned and handled by Torben Hansen, was Clower’s Thunder Strike. The judges were Stanley Downs of "bleep", AL, and Jarry Walton of Reno, NV.
In the Open Derby, Jarry Walton’s pointer female, Get’er Done was the winner. Redrock Hard Times, owned and handled by Jessica Essad was placed second. Third was Rich Heaton’s Copper Sunrise, handled by Rich Robertson. Ron Pray of Gilroy, CA, and Lou Johnson of Reno, NV, were the judges. Seventeen dogs were drawn and 16 competed.
In the final event, the Open All-Age Championship (18 pointers and 8 setters), I Feel Free, Tom Griffin’s, setter female, was named Champion. Rich Robertson ably guided her. Runner-up was Redrock High Country, Doug and Lori Steinshouer’s pointer male. Lori was the handler.
Adjudicating the stake, was Sean Kelly of Auburn, CA, and Jarry Walton of Reno.
